Bicester

A civil parish and town, Bicester (/ˈbɪstər/ BISS-tər) is in north-eastern Oxfordshire's Cherwell district. As well as two axes' railway stations; Bicester Village and Bicester North, it has road links to Kidlington, Oxford, Buckingham, Brackley, Witney and Aylesbury. Halfway between Birmingham and London is Bicester, being 51 miles (82 km) from both cities.

Within 10 miles of London Oxford Airport, Bicester is within an hour's drive of international airports. In the Garth, the Town Council of Bicester in the award-winning and picturesque Garth Park has offices. Langford Village Community Association; Bure Park Residents' Association; Bicester Parkland View Residents' Association and Priory Lane Residents' Association include active residents' associations that Bicester has.

The Bicester School, the Cooper School and Bicester Tech Studio are secondary schools that Bicester has. Founded in 1896, Bicester Town Football Club played in Hellenic League until the 2010-11 season. Through to 17 from ages 5, Colts F.C. of Bicester organises teams at facilities at Chesterton's Akeman Street. SWIM 21' accredited, Bicester Blue Fins is affiliated to the Oxfordshire & North Buckinghamshire ASA and ASA South East Region.

The 1610 John Speed map shows spellings that are alternative and G. H. Dannatt, historian, in 17th and 18th century wills found 45 variants, the name Bicester, which since the 17th century has been in use, derives from forms that are earlier including Burencestre, Berncestre, Bissiter, Biciter, and Burcester. After St Birinus converted the West Saxons' Cynegils King following their meeting near Blewbury, St Edburg's Church as a minster was founded in the 7th century in Bicester.

Bicester King's End manorial lord, John Coker formed a 'Protection of Property Association against Jacobins and Levellers' as an anti-Painite loyalist band providing militia and volunteer drafts for the army following the outbreak of the French Revolutionary from 1793. The Railway of Great Western sought to shorten its Birmingham (Snow Hill) from London (Paddington) route, and to complete a fast route between the two cities, in 1910 opened the Bicester cut-off line through the north of the town and a station named Bicester North on Buckingham Road, which on 1 July 1910 was opened.

Due to create a secondary school and primary school that is two-form is the (south of Bicester) development of Kingsmere. At Akeman Street, Chesterton play Bicester and North Oxford Cricket Club. Founded in 1947, Bicester Rugby Club was playing on land provided by the King's Head pub.
